European Bakery provided a small wedding cake and pies for our wedding (Key lime, Strawberry rhubarb and Blueberry). Everyone loved them. The key lime pie was AMAZING! The wedding cake was also a hit and we asked them to make a custom flavor for us that we provided the recipe. They prepared it for our tasting and had no issues! Very easy and sweet to work with. We were so happy and would recommend them for your wedding cake or pies for a different twist (or for another event!)

European Bakery provided cupcakes for my wedding and they were a hit! We ordered 125 for 145 guests and there were maybe 5 leftover- pretty perfect. My now husband and I are not sweets people at all so weren't even discussing dessert at the time but when we tasted their cupcakes at a wedding showcase at our venue we couldn't believe how delicious they were. We didn't do any more research and just booked them!

When I walked into this bakery the first time, the smell is what sold me on it. It smelled exactly like the bakeshop my grandpa owned and ran when I was a kid and it exceeded my expectations. Helen (owner) made me a grooms cake with rival football team helmets facing each other that everyone loved. She also made a wedding cake that was to die for and I can't wait to see if it still tastes the same in 1 year! Helen is extraordinary and I am so glad I found her shop. I'll be visiting whenever possible!

Beautiful and especially delicious cakes!! Make sure you plan your cake tasting at least 6 months before the wedding so you can work off all of the cake from the tasting because you will want to eat it all!! 😜 very pleasant experience easy going staff and reasonable prices.

European Bakery has been a staple in my everyday life; from birthday's to holidays, so it was a "no brainer" to work with them for our BIG day. From the moment I contacted Helen, the head baker, I knew we were in for a wonderful experience. She worked with our crazy schedules to get us into a tasting (an absolute MUST when shopping for your wedding cake). She then worked with our very tight budget to find a solution to make our day perfect! We went with a simple and small 2-tier cutting cake, and an assortment of cupcakes for our guests. I was practically in tears when I saw the final results at the wedding! The cake was elegant and simple; my "instructions" were to make it pretty; the top was covered in buttercream roses using the colours of our wedding. The base was simple yet an elegant vanilla buttercream. The cupcakes were adorable! And having eaten left over cake for well OVER a week after the wedding - the chocolate cake was still perfectly moist and flavorful! You would be remiss for not checking out European Bakery when in Maine - ESPECIALLY for your wedding. There is no other place that can match their level of expertise, passion, and dedication to each one of their customers and to their art. Many thanks to Helen and her team at EB! We ordered our wedding cake from European Bakery and absolutely loved it. It was delicious and beautifully decorated, and the people we worked with at the bakery were friendly and professional. We got a lot of compliments about the cake from our guests and would definitely recommend ordering from European Bakery!

As a wedding coordinator I have tasted a number of wedding cakes, sweets and desserts so I knew where I wanted my wedding cakes to come from. With that being said, I wanted my fiancé to know that we would be getting the best so I took him to a different bakery for our first tasting. It was fine, nothing special and then we went to European Bakery. He was astounded at the difference and I have to admit although I knew which would be best I was even a little surprised at how vast the difference was. Light fluffy cake (obviously not from a mix or frozen) delightful frostings (especially the buttercream, OMG!) and friendly, personable owners. We were in wedding cake heaven! I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted (brought pictures) and when the cakes arrived they looked JUST like the pictures! It was true perfection start to finish. I can’t wait to have our cake again for our first year anniversary and I’m so glad we live close enough that we can order more each year!!

We got our cake (2 flavors) and mini-wrapped whoopie pies for the place settings from European Bakery. From the tasting to the cake, European Bakery was easy to work with, professional, and delivered the best cake! We tried a couple of other vendors in Portland, South Portland & Kennebunk, but we had issues with each (cake didn't taste great, business was extraordinarily disorganized (wrong date/place/flavor in quote)etc.) --it ended up being a really easy decision for us and I'm so glad we went with European Bakery. The cake was pheomenal and our guests that forgot the whoopie pies were very sad they'd done so! European Bakery delivered the cake on time and without any issue-they were very easy to work with. Unfortunately, the venue did not put out the sheet cake that we'd ordered instead of a 4th tier (EB's suggestion to save some money)--while a great idea & cost savings, it's the one thing I think I'd do differently next time around as the venue didn't realize that they were supposed to put it out and so many guests didn't have a chocolate option, which was a shame - it was delicious (as I can attest for having done some damage to the sheet cake the week after the wedding).

I like this place-it's pretty; they have a tea room too-and the cake i chose was the Opera cake, white buttercream with raspberry and chocolate and lemon curd filling. The tasting was great fun too, and the lady was very patient with us.

Having a destination wedding we needed to make all of our selections long distance. We live in North Eastern Pennsylvania and our wedding was to be held in Freeport Maine. I spoke with Helen and she was so accommodating. She offered to do a tasting shortly before our wedding. We knew we wanted a real vanilla bean wedding cake with butter-cream icing and cannoli filling made w/ mascarpone cheese. Our wedding cake was so moist and the icing was creamy with a soft sweetness not an over powering sweetness like most butter-cream icings. Everything was made from scratch and the most delicious wedding cake I have ever had. Delivery went without a hitch to our venue and Helen's husband set the cake up. They even provided us with a sturdy box to take the bottom layer back to Pennsylvania. I would also like to comment on the construction of the layers. The cake was constructed in a manner that made it portable and once set up, it was on the riser and didn't topple over when the cake table was accidentally bumped. If this bakery was closer to my home I would order every cake we ever needed from them. But alas I will have to settle for stopping in for a treat when we return on vacations. Came to find out this bakery has a very positive reputation with the local population of Freeport and Portland Maine as well.

I would give it 10 stars! The cakes are fantastic! They decorated the cake just as we requested. It was beautiful. The bakery was great to work with!

I ordered my wedding cake from Helen at the European Bakery. During my tasting, she was very helpful in explaining the options and letting us try whatever we wanted. Not only did the cake I ordered turn out to be the most delicious wedding cake I've ever tasted, but the butter cream frosting decorations were impeccable! I've never seen such flawless work and she even added some elements from my invitations (fleur-de-lis) within the scroll work. You can not go wrong ordering a cake from the European Bakery! The service was great, Helen was very easy to work with, the cake was moist and the frosting to die for!

I was very impressed with this bakery. We went to our tasting, and fell in love with 3 different flavors. The bakery was okay with that and offered to do all 3, no up charge. We also wanted a square cake, and that was also no increase in price. We decided on 3 fillings: cream cheese & fruit, armaretto, & lemon. During the tasting, they took notes on what we wanted for our cake and kept it on file. 13 days before the wedding, I went in and paid for the cake and confirmed the delivery time frame. I never discussed the cake details with the bakery again after the tasting. When I finally saw the cake at the reception, I was so happy, it was EXACTLY what we wanted!! Plus, it tasted so good, my guests were raving, and I dont' feel that happens too often at weddings. Overall, I would use them again.

bottom line is the cakes are FABULOUS, but the bakery's customer service ethic could use some work. They came highly recommended, and I'd communicated with them a bit, but in the couple weeks before my wedding emails weren't answered. i called several times, and the line was frequently busy (just one line and no voicemail service). Twice they picked up, and two different employees gave me the same response: call back tomorrow when Helen is here. No offer to take my number and have her call me back, no other staff that could possibly help. At that point I was starting to think I needed to find another option, and told them so--indicating that this was not okay. When I emailed that to Helen, she did jump into action, providing me cell phones, etc. I'm glad I stuck with them, as the cupcakes were a big hit at the wedding, but I will credit European bakery for pushing me as close to bridezilla as I got. Get voicemail service! return phone calls! and maybe train a few more staff to discuss wedding orders. . .

Their cakes are extrodinarily great. their flavors and fillings are delicous. i brought in a picture of a cake design and they copied it exact. the design was great. however, communication can be lost. They messed up the flavor of my cake and the color of the design.

Our cake from European Bakery was absolutely delicious and beautiful as well. The only complaint we have with them is that our coordinator at the Union Bluff told us that the bakery delivered the cake very late – like, it arrived during the cocktail hour. This could have been a fluke Labor Day weekend traffic/busy wedding day situation, so I would still recommend them. The cake was delicious and much more reasonably priced than other options.

I had heard good reviews of this bakery from coworkers and had tried a few pastries that they had brought in to. So I had a cake tasting there, I wasn't sure how it worked but the family who owns the bakery was very accommodating and invited me to come in on a Saturday with some friends. They created a whole bunch of combinations of different kinds of cakes, frostings, and fillings and we all left with a sugar high. It was hard to choose because all the combinations were so good. Also we found just what we were looking for as far as decoration in one of their extensive albums. They don't do rolled fondant due to the poor taste, only buttercream, but you could barely tell the difference it was so smooth. The day of we had the cake delivered, and it was absolutely perfect. They were also very helpful by suggesting smaller decorated cake as well as a less expensive sheet cake to feed the guests with. Wish I could post a picture

We wanted cupcakes- yellow & grey for our wedding! We got delicious vanilla buttercream with yellow, and chocolate with mocha with a brown/grey. amazing and as always so yummy!

Helen was wonderful. We scheduled a tasting with her a year in advance (we live 2000 miles away and we were there to visit). She kept all of her notes from that tasting to make ordering the cake super easy (only needed 2 weeks notice to order the cake). I had no idea what I wanted for flavors, cake decorations, etc when I went to see her for the tasting. She showed me a book of photos of cakes that she had done, and I fell in love with her tree and bird design (which ended up setting the theme for the whole wedding). We tasted numerous cakes, and couldn't decide between three flavors - so Helen said we should just do all three! So we did! We had 1 tier chocolate raspberry, 1 tier chocolate mocha, and the bottom tier was white cake with lemon buttercream, a thin ribbon of raspberry and fresh blueberries - yum! Delivery charge was a bit expensive ($95) but well worth it. Helen did not try to up-sell us. She gave us estimates for different sized tiers, including sheet cakes or not including sheet cakes, how many each would serve, etc. Fabulous overall. No disappointment here!!

The tasting was so difficult because they were all soo good! The cake got to the reception without difficulty. It looked amazing, and tasted even better. I have had the cake at other events, IT IS ALL GOOD! All the time!!

My guests literally were all licking their plates. The wedding cake designs and taste are amazing!! Many guests had multiple slices and could not stop talking about the deliciousness!!

My cake didn't hold up my cake topper (hollow porcelain) very well but I didn't have control over the stiffness of the frosting, so that might be why.

The most awesome cake I have ever tasted! SO good!

My wife used to work at this bakery and since we were getting married nearby, choosing the bakery to prepare our wedding cake was a no-brainer. The testing was the best part of the planning process and the owner was patient and helpful with us. In the end, the cake appeared exactly as we had dreamed it. If you're getting married anywhere near this place, take advantage of their services.

They aren't Martha Stewart, but their prices can't be beat and they can give a classic light wedding cake. I opted for swiss dot, very lovely. Super friendly and helpful. We order mini whoopie pies they were fantastic!

We loved the cakes at European Bakery and had a hard time choosing just the right kind of cake because they were all so yummy! We had deep, rich fall colors for our wedding, so our cake was to be no different! It was a three layer square chocolate ganache with light brown swirling and burnt orange calla lilies and burnt orange spray roses - absolutely gorgeous - we were thrilled with the final product! And I asked about Helen making me a special grooms cake on the side (it involved a space ship). She was super creative and did a great job helping my surprise my husband on our big day with a special cake just for him!
